Music and math were also somewhere near. So, it’s time to review figures of music industry in 2019.
Money and figures
Major fact: industry is still going, for the fifth year in a row. For five years global revenue has grown to $4.9 bn and hit the mark of $19.1. Even if 2019 kept growth rate of previous year (9.7%) total venue to 2020 will be around $21 bn.
It’s still smaller than global industry revenue of the CD ear, but major analytic centers predict a steady growth and yet to come greater numbers. For example, Goldman Sachs says that only streaming market will cost around $32 bn in the year of 2030. Midia Research gives even more promising figures: $45.3 by the year 2026.
Let’s talk about local markets. European music markets seem to have problems in growth around 2018, but they just skyrocketed in 2019. For example, Germany. After slight fell in 2018, growth rate stayed at 7.9% in 2019. Spanish markets exploded^ 5.9% in 2018 turned into 27% (!) in 2019. French music market has grown 12% in 2019 in opposite to 1.8% year before.
Aside from european markets, first signs of growth seems to appear around the world. African music market is feeling better, Southeast Asia, India and China have great times, Latin America is doing well too.
Streaming
What about streaming services? The biggest player in that market remains the same: Spotify holds 36% of market share. After that stands Apple Music with 18%, Amazon Music (13%), Tencent (10%), YouTube Music (5%), Deezer (3%), Pandora (2%). Total size of the market estimated to be 304 mln subscribers, which is 34 mln more than year ago. Talking about percentages: Spotify stays still, Apple Amazon and YouTube are growing, small service are falling down.
Top Artists
What did we listen in 2019? Post Malone became most streamed artist in 2019 with 6.5 millions streams. He overrun young star and one of the most popular person of 2019, Billie Eilish. Her album reached point of 6 million streams. Third place goes to Ariana Grande and her album “thank u”.
Camilla Cabelo didn’t get her prize in top 3 streamers of the year, but she has no reasons to be sad. Her song “Senorita” made with Shawn Mendes achieves prize of most-streamed in 2019. Second most-streamed song – hit by Billie Eilish, “bad guy”. Post Malone’s “Sunflower” is on the third place.
Finally, Billie Eilish has to take any of the first place. She has most-streamed album of the year, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”. Some nominations from Spotify:
